*Renewable Energy Certificates guarantee that a certain amount of clean wind and solar electricity will be generated onto the power grid, displacing fossil fuel-based electricity generation. The more renewable energy we support, the less non-renewable energy will be required in the future.

SO FRESH AND SO GREEN!
For us, our focus on sustainability started with our personal beliefs. I (Jojo) have a background in designing sustainable apparel with organic cotton and other alternative fibers, and together with my husband DJ Tecumseh and his affinity for nature, we aspired to make choices that would help us live greener lifestyles.
Because of my design work and the blessings on many green mentors we have made changes in our lifestyle in an attempt to live more sustainably – like eating more organic food, using non-toxic household products, recycling, and educating ourselves about sustainable choices. So when it came to our independent DJ business it was natural to think about what we could do to have less impact on the environment and still be soulful and stylish.
Our main concerns are with energy conservation and the use of recycled materials/reducing waste. So the biggest decision we made was to invest in the hybrid Toyota Prius. The Prius is our main mode of transportation. We also participate in the Green Power programs offered by Seattle City Light and Puget Sound Energy. We pay extra dollars to support renewable energy projects like wind and solar stations. We use post consumer recycled paper for our marketing materials and only print what we need, and we recycle and reuse everything that we can. All contracts and invoices are encouraged to be sent electronically to reduce our paper usage. For our website we chose black for the display color because it uses only 59 watts to display rather than 74 watts for a white display.
For our eco-friendly sound, we use a high tech computerized turntable system that plays MP3s not CDs. CDs generate a lot of plastic waste and also require toxic chemicals to manufacture. DJ Tecumseh is a vinyl lover so he also reclaims vintage vinyl so that it doesn’t end up in landfills along with all those plastic bags and CDs.
To us, a green wedding is one that takes into account the social & environmental impact of the event and makes decisions based on careful and thoughtful planning. We encourage our couples to assess what is important to them and to try to make wedding decisions that support their beliefs. There are many options in every wedding category from venue to catering to flowers, dresses, and more! Examples include energy efficient venues, local/organic food and flowers, vintage dresses, reclaimed jewelry or favor donations to social causes.
